Year 2a

Welcome to Year 2A!

Mrs Pearce is our teacher and we also work closely with Mrs Campbell and Miss Jones.

In 2A we look forward to our Love of Reading time everyday and have read some incredible texts so far including The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark, The Enchanted Wood and Paddington. We have so many more exciting texts to explore together!

English this half term is based on the book Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl. Next half term we will explore Dear Greenpeace. We will use both as a stimulus for some exciting pieces of fiction and non-fiction writing.

In mathematics we are focusing on shape, measure and position and direction.

Please continue to help children to learn how to count in 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s. They should be able to count forwards and backwards and know all of the related number facts by the end of the year.

Our science topic is plants. We will be learning about what plants need to grow as well as studying the different parts.

In geography we are learning about Australia, about the physical and human features found there, different landscapes and what it is like to live there.

In art we will focus on printing looking at different techniques and creating our own print blocks using both foam and clay and printing on to different materials.

PE is now on a Monday. This term we will be learning striking and fielding skills through cricket. Children will continue to come to school in full kits.

In PSHE we will be studying the units 'Relationships' and 'Changing Me'.

In RE we will focus on the Christian and Jewish creation stories, looking at both in depth and thinking about what we can learn from them.

In Music we will be developing our listening skills with particular focus on The Lark Ascending by Vaughan Williams.

Please remember that you can keep in contact through Class Dojo and any updates or messages will be posted there.
