Year 1 A - Mrs N Harding
This year, year 1 are continuing to learn through play in their independent learning time. A typical year 1 day starts with handwriting, phonics, maths, literacy and a guided read. The afternoons are split between the foundation subjects, R.E, ICT and PSHE and finish with a shared read.
Phonics is a big part of Year 1 and is a daily part of learning. Phonics in year 1 is pacy and lots of fun as we begin to prepare for the phonics screening test.
Literacy is taught through a book, allowing the children to completely immerse themselves in a text and enjoy a range of exciting and purposeful writing.
Maths is active, energetic and real. Maths is taught through song as well as concrete, pictorial and abstract concepts. The children have already begun counting forward to 100 in 1’s, 2’s and 10’s… We love to dance and sing our times tables.
In year 1 we are focusing on increasing our independent skills. We enjoy following our class ‘bee rules’, celebrating and sharing our work on ‘The proud cloud’ and take pride in being a daily busy bee.
Our days in year one fly by!
